The story is about the life of Son Goku, a monkey tailed boy loosely based on the traditional Chinese Novel “Journey to the West”. The Dragon Balls itself are seven magical orbs which are scattered across the world. When all the seven magical orbs assembled, they can be used to summon Shenglong, a dragon who will grant one wish within its limit. After the dragon has granted the wish, the dragon ball once again scattered across the world and become invert for one year. The story line is based on Son Goku in a mission to collect and assembled again all the Dragon Balls which he believe was belong to his adopted Grandfather, Gohan. In a journey he met , Bulma a 16 years old genius girl who then created a “ Dragon Radar” to detect the location of the Dragon Balls. Besides Goku, other parties are also looking for the same Dragon Ball and wish to conquer the world with the Dragon Power. One of them are Red Ribbon army leaded by General Red.
The Earlier volumes of Dragon Ball are primarily humorous fantasy stories, but containing some sci-fi elements. Because it is a fantasy sci-fi film, we will be noted that the characters here include human and also a talking animals live in a city together, not to be forgotten all the weird creatures also. The overall mood in the earlier volumes is light with a very few deaths and emphasis on adventure and humor. The manga turned to a darker tone mood in volume 12-17, when Son Goku’s best friend Kuiririn was killed. The Manga become more serious when Goku has to face more and more deadly enemy including his own brother. The story then continued in Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT. Even though, the story develops to more serious plot and adventure, the elements of Dragon Balls itself remains in the story.
